AB summary
The World of 8 Billion Student Video Contest is an annual international video competition run by Population Education, a program of Population Connection. It was formerly called World of 7 Billion.
The 2026–2027 contest opened on September 2, 2026, and entries are accepted on a rolling basis until the final deadline of March 3, 2027.
Entrants choose one of this year's three global topics — City Planning, Fresh Water Use, or Extreme Weather — and create a video of no more than one minute that connects human population growth to that topic and proposes a sustainable solution.
Students may participate individually or in groups. There is no group-size limit, although groups of 2–4 are recommended. The contest is open to public school, private school, and homeschool students and has drawn entrants from more than 100 countries.
Videos are judged by topic within Middle School (grades 6-8) and High School (grades 9-12) categories. Winners will be announced in May 2027.
